There are many topics students can explore to determine if opinions being offered are, in fact expert opinions that likely to be accurate. Ask students to brainstorm a list of current issues many people have opinions about that they might want to explore further. For example, they might suggest:
- What was the underlying cause of the 2019 measles outbreak in WA?
- Is climate change responsible for increasingly severe storms?
- What has caused the recent crashes of two Boeing 737 Max 8 planes?
- Does switching back and forth between Standard Time and Daylight Savings Time really harm people?
